Earthquakes are rare in New York City, but we were reminded they can happen when a 5.8-magnitude quake centered in Virginia shook the city on August 23, 2011. So what should you do if the ground starts shaking again? Drop to the floor, take cover under a solid piece of furniture or next to an interior wall, and hold on to a sturdy piece of furniture.Â
